Terms and conditions: events and museum

Terms and Conditions for events and performances

  • Tickets can be purchased online, or by telephone by calling 0191 338 7178 or in person at the visitor desk inside the cathedral during opening hours.
  • We accept cash (in person only), cheque (with a valid cheque card) and all major credit/debit cards, with the exclusion of American Express.
  • Any concession tickets are available to children under 16 or in full-time education, full-time students with a valid NUS card, disabled people and a free carer if required, persons age 60 and over, and those in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance. Proof of status for all concessions tickets purchased must be produced when collecting tickets from the Visitor Desk.
  • The cathedral reserves the right to ask for proof of status when checking tickets upon arrival at an event or performance.
  • Children and young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
  • Tickets cannot be resold, exchanged or refunded with the exception that in the unlikely occurrence of an event or performance being cancelled, refunds will apply.
  • Tickets are valid for your chosen event or performance on the date and time advertised.
  • Occasionally an offer code may be made available for online booking of an event or performance. Offer codes will apply to full price tickets only and exclude concessions and other promotions. If a full price ticket has already been purchased, offer codes cannot be applied retrospectively.
  • Latecomers to an event or performance will be admitted at the discretion of Cathedral staff or the senior Volunteer Cathedral Special Event Steward on duty.
  • Tickets may not under any circumstances be altered, defaced, overwritten or copied.
  • Eating and drinking are prohibited within Durham Cathedral, except in designated refreshment areas. Bottled water is permitted.
  • Smoking is prohibited within all parts of Durham Cathedral.
  • The use of photographic and recording equipment is prohibited within Durham Cathedral during events (unless otherwise specified).
  • Dogs will not be admitted (except assistance dogs).
  • Durham Cathedral reserves the right to introduce security checks and items may be subject to search.
  • Bags larger than standard airplane hand luggage are not allowed in the Cathedral - 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22" x 17.7" x 9.8"). Please note that Durham Cathedral has nowhere to store personal belongings of visitors.
  • Durham Cathedral reserves the right to refuse admission to an event or performance or restrict access to specific areas of the Cathedral at short notice and without prior warning.
  • Durham Cathedral may hold you liable for any damage caused by you to the property or any of its contents or for any injury caused to any of our representatives or other visitors during your visit.
  • Durham Cathedral excludes all liability for any loss, damage or personal property or injury to visitors, howsoever caused, but does not exclude liability where any death or injury is caused by the negligence of Durham Cathedral or its staff.
  • When purchasing a ticket for Durham Cathedral events you may be asked if you would like to receive email communications from Durham Cathedral. Data will not be shared with third parties and is collected and used in accordance with Durham Cathedral's Privacy Policy, which you can find linked at the bottom of this page.

Terms and conditions for Durham Cathedral Museum

  • Tickets cannot be resold, exchanged or refunded.
  • Tickets are valid on your chosen date and time slot during the museum's opening hours.
  • Should Durham Cathedral Museum have to close for any unadvertised reason after tickets have been purchased for that day, customers will be given the opportunity to amend the date and time or have a full refund.
  • Tickets may not under any circumstances be altered, defaced, overwritten or copied.
  • Children and young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
  • Eating and drinking are prohibited within Durham Cathedral Museum and Durham Cathedral, except in designated refreshment areas.
  • Smoking is prohibited within all parts of Durham Cathedral including the museum.
  • Non-flash photography is permitted in the first two galleries of Durham Cathedral Museum, the Monks' Dormitory and the Collections Gallery. Photography is strictly prohibited in the Great Kitchen, which houses the relics of St Cuthbert, due to the conservation needs of these fragile objects. Tripods, selfie sticks and monopods can not be used inside Durham Cathedral Museum unless permission is granted in advance.
  • Dogs will not be admitted, except guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs.
  • Durham Cathedral reserves the right to introduce security checks and items may be subject to search.
